Laetare in La Louvière

Halfway through lent, La Louvière awakens to the sound of drums and the pounding of all the shoes of the Gilles. During January and February, preparations begin for the drumming and music. Members of folklore societies cross the town dressed in traditional mining clothes: hat, sea-blue overalls and a red scarf with white polka dots. Two weeks before the grand finale of the carnival, the general preparations take place, where the societies walk through the town centre in all their finery.
